Nobody buys it and I tell everybody to just ask their primary for valacyclovir instead of recommending that rubbish. For example, docosanol is not a form of generic Abreva; it's the active ingredient. The only topical treatment available at drugstores that is FDA approved to heal them is Abreva, and it is ridiculously expensive (I just bought a .07 oz tube for $21.99). Based on the times when I didn’t have any Abreva on hand, I can definitely say that it does shorten the duration of cold sores.
